First thing we have to do is list the parametric data we want:<\/p>\n<li>Top Width and Length<\/li>\n<li>Base Width and Length<\/li>\n<li>Slope of pile<\/li>\n<li>Top z<\/li>\n<li>Base z<\/li>\n<li>Height<\/li>\n<li>Azimuth<\/li>\n<p>\nColumn will be created as an extrusion. But it must be an extrusion that allows using profile families. That way we will be able to manage dimensions and angle rotation (azimuth).<br \/>\nLet\u2019s prepare that Profile Family:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Use a Metric Profile family template to create the profile for the extrusion<\/li>\n<li>Create a square centred in the Main Reference Planes and add two parameters to control Width and Length of it. It\u2019s not needed to be shared parameters.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Now we start with the pile family:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I like to start using a Metric Generic Model family template, afterwards I will change Category into Structural Columns.<\/li>\n<li>Go to the Front View and repeat what is shown in the picture. The aim of all that Reference Planes and Parameters is to allow entering a negative number in the Z Base dimension. All that parameters must be shared parameters.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4129 size-large\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Post_05_01.png\" alt=\"Post_05_01\" width=\"1257\" height=\"609\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Post_05_01.png 1257w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Post_05_01-480x233.png 480w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Post_05_01-768x372.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1257px) 100vw, 1257px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Create a Swept extrusion, first enter the path and then select the Profile Family you have done previously.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4130 size-large\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Post_05_02.png\" alt=\"Post_05_02\" width=\"708\" height=\"615\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Post_05_02.png 708w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Post_05_02-480x417.png 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 708px) 100vw, 708px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>To control dimensions we have to create two Types of the Profile Family one for the top and one the base, and also create de 4 parameters that we are going to link to the profiles. That parameters must be shared parameters. Then going to the Project Browser select one profile and with right-click menu select Type Properties, there link Length and Width Family Profile parameters with Top or Base Length and Width shared parameters. Then you will have to edit the extrusion and choose the right Type for each profile.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4131 size-large\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Post_05_03.png\" alt=\"Post_05_03\" width=\"1013\" height=\"709\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Post_05_03.png 1013w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Post_05_03-480x336.png 480w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Post_05_03-768x538.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1013px) 100vw, 1013px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Now we\u2019re going to control the rotation of the pile. Select the extrusion and in the Properties Windows will appear both profiles, link angle parameter with angle shared parameter. Direction of angle depends on direction of creation of the path.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"719\" height=\"529\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4132 size-full\" alt=\"Post_05_04\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Post_05_04.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Post_05_04.png 719w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Post_05_04-480x353.png 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 719px) 100vw, 719px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s time to calculate Base Width and Length depending on Height and Slope:\n<p>Create a new subcategory for the pile. First go to Family Category and Parameters and select Structural Column and verify is not selected Work Plane Based. Then you can go to Object Styles and create a new subcategory. The result is a pile to be locate always in Level 0, it&#8217;s with Z Top and Base parameters that we control its Z position.
