{"id":1626,"date":"2017-02-01T17:16:36","date_gmt":"2017-02-01T16:16:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/?p=1626"},"modified":"2022-03-30T15:54:16","modified_gmt":"2022-03-30T13:54:16","slug":"modeling-structures-in-revit-iid-beams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/en\/modeling-structures-in-revit-iid-beams\/","title":{"rendered":"Structures in Revit (V)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Modelling Beams<\/h2>\n<p>Before creating beams, you must add <a href=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/en\/modeling-structures-revit-i\">Grids<\/a> and Columns.\u00a0Beams\u00a0are\u00a0a component family which means that are created from a separate file and loaded into a model.<\/p>\n<p>Best practice to create a beam\u00a0in a model is in a plan view using\u00a0&#8220;On Grids&#8221; placement, Revit sets automatically beams at segments between columns or walls, if some unwanted beam has been created, just delete it. \u00a0However, before selecting &#8220;On Grids&#8221; check &#8220;Placement Plane&#8221; is <em>Options Bar<\/em> is correct. In the <em>Options Bar<\/em> we can also select the &#8220;Structural Usage&#8221;, if it is set &#8220;Automatic&#8221; Revit will automatically determine the Structural Usage of the framing member\u00a0on the supporting elements.\u00a0Sometimes occurs that when you create some beams\u00a0nothing is seen, don&#8217;t panic, switch to a 3D View, your elements sure are there, it&#8217;s only that the &#8220;Placement Plane&#8221; is\u00a0not properly settled or that Visibility and View Range settings must be modified.<\/p>\n<p>Elements of each beam are defined through the type properties of the specific beam family. In addition, various instance properties can be modified to define the functionality and geometric position of the beam. Notice that Location Line is usually unselected in the Visibility Settings, select and you will better understand Justification Points of Beam.<\/p>\n<p>There is a very easy way to copy Beams\u00a0from one level to another: Copy them to Clipboard and then select Paste Aligned to Selected Levels (<em>Modify<\/em> tab): (that also works for other elements)<\/p>\n<h4>When you create a Beam System<\/h4>\n<p>To check if beams\u00a0are\u00a0correctly placed or have the right type is easier by means a schedule than in other type of view.\u00a0Also to help checking your model you can use filters in your views. Filters can set a different color for each type of Beam, so you can see at a glance is everything is ok.
