Furthermore, the solution to a common positioning issue experienced by some users will be exposed.<\/p>\n<h3>Topography export from Civil 3D to BIM360<\/h3>\n<p>The process starts once we have a proper definition of the topographic surface in Civil 3D.<\/p>\n<p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16752\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/TopoCivil3D.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"970\" height=\"412\" \/>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nTo publish the topography to BIM 360, select the surface and click &#8220;Publish Surfaces&#8221; in the &#8220;Output&#8221; tab.\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16749\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/PublishSurfaces.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"826\" height=\"117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/PublishSurfaces.png 826w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/PublishSurfaces-480x68.png 480w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/PublishSurfaces-768x109.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 826px) 100vw, 826px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\nIn the export men\u00fa confirm the surface(s) to be exported and define filename and the BIM 360 path where the surface will be stored by clicking the browse (&#8220;&#8230;&#8221;) button.\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16751\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/SaveAsSurface-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"356\" height=\"482\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/SaveAsSurface-1.png 356w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/SaveAsSurface-1-355x480.png 355w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 356px) 100vw, 356px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\nOnce we accept the configuration by clicking &#8220;Ok&#8221;, the selected element starts being uploaded and BIM 360 starts processing the surface (this process is performed on the web and can take a little bit of time, but be patient, the topography will be accessible from Revit in a couple of minutes).\n<\/p>\n<h3>Link topography in Revit<\/h3>\n<p>\nBefore importing the surface, the Revit model should be properly positioned in world coordinate system (WCS). In this case, after the import the surface will be positioned according to the WCS (if there are no problems like the one explained in the last point of this post). In our example, we have a bridge that has been properly positioned in the WCS.\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16754\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Bridge-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"839\" height=\"586\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Bridge-1.png 839w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Bridge-1-480x335.png 480w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Bridge-1-768x536.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 839px) 100vw, 839px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\nIn order to link the surface we just need to select\u00a0 &#8220;Link Topography&#8221; in the &#8220;Insert&#8221; tab.\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16755\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LinkTopo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"457\" height=\"118\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\nA BIM360 browser will pop up. Navigate to the location where the Civil 3D file has been stored and select it.\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-16756\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/OpenTopo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"806\" height=\"516\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/OpenTopo.png 926w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/OpenTopo-480x307.png 480w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/OpenTopo-768x492.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 806px) 100vw, 806px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\nThe following message could be displayed if the positioning of the Revit file has been done without acquiring coordinates from the original Civil 3D file.\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16757\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/SharedCoordWorld.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"352\" height=\"198\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\nIf the positioning according to the WCS is correct, there is nothing to worry about. But, some users have experienced issues with the resulting location of the surfaces in properly positioned Revit models.\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-16761\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/BadPositioning.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"952\" height=\"496\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/BadPositioning.png 1169w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/BadPositioning-480x250.png 480w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/BadPositioning-768x400.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 952px) 100vw, 952px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\n\u00bfWhat is happening?\n<\/p>\n<p>The answer in most cases can be found in the regional settings of Windows, specifically in the decimal separator. If windows has the comma defined as a decimal separator, the error may occur during import, since internally Revit and Desktop Connector understand the point as a decimal separator in some fields.<\/p>\n<p>\nTo avoid this issue, it is recommended to use the dot as decimal symbol in the advanced configuration of the windows regional settings. To do that go to &#8220;Region&#8221; in the windows &#8220;Control Panel&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16762\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Control-Panel.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"715\" height=\"395\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Control-Panel.png 715w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Control-Panel-480x265.png 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 715px) 100vw, 715px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\nSelect &#8220;Additional settings&#8221;:\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16764\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/RegionSettings.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"486\" height=\"544\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/RegionSettings.png 486w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/RegionSettings-429x480.png 429w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 486px) 100vw, 486px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\nAnd set the dot as &#8220;Decimal separator&#8221; and the comma as &#8220;Digit grouping symbol&#8221;:\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16763\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/RegionAdvanced.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"463\" height=\"577\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/RegionAdvanced.png 463w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/RegionAdvanced-385x480.png 385w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 463px) 100vw, 463px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\nAfter changing these settings, the topography should be properly placed when importing from BIM 360 (Remember to restart after applying the changes).\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAccording to Autodesk, this issue has been fixed in Revit 2020.2 but they also say that these problems may persist in some particular machines.
