{"id":26218,"date":"2024-04-02T17:11:18","date_gmt":"2024-04-02T15:11:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/?p=26218"},"modified":"2024-04-10T10:51:13","modified_gmt":"2024-04-10T08:51:13","slug":"automations-and-high-volume-shop-drawings-lod-400-for-office-skyscrapers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/en\/automations-and-high-volume-shop-drawings-lod-400-for-office-skyscrapers\/","title":{"rendered":"Avant-garde Office Skyscrapers"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Automations and high volume shop drawings at LOD 400 for onsite construction.<\/h2>\n<p>Three years ago, our customer, a global construction company, was in charge of building two avant-garde office skyscrapers and their adjacent commercial area.<\/p>\n<p>To meet tight deadlines and oversee an efficient onsite construction process of the skyscrapers, our customer had to supply its teams and subcontractors with a large volume of highly detailed shop drawings within a very short period of time. Modelical was selected to undertake this challenging work package of the project.<\/p>\n<h3>From Revit automations, BIM modelling and coordination to shop drawing at LOD 400<\/h3>\n<p>For a year, three Modelical\u2019s experts got fully involved in this project, providing a sharp combination of services:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Revit add-ins Development: we developed custom Revit add-ins to automate the generation of block wall geometry and documentation models at LOD 400 in accordance with BIM Forum specification.<\/li>\n<li>Block work geometry modelling: for more than 130 levels across two skyscrapers and for 5 levels of their surrounding buildings<\/li>\n<li>LOD 400 shop drawings of all the block work plan views and elevations, including openings, MEP fixtures, reinforcements to enable onsite construction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Family setup strategy and automation to overcome Revit limitations<\/h3>\n<p>All the construction works were performed under the BIM methodology and the modelling software was Revit. However, Revit&#8217;s limitations in representing concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls did not allow us to achieve the expected level of precision for onsite construction shop drawings. We overcame this difficulty by combining a family setup strategy and a set of automations.<\/p>\n<p>We first created specific Revit families for CMU blocks and curtain walls.<\/p>\n<p>Then, we developed a set of Revit automations to accelerate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The creation or modification of block work geometries<\/li>\n<li>The generation of plan views, elevations and the annotation items at 1:25 scale.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This approach allowed us to automate about 80% of the block work section and elevation modelling and shop drawing generation tasks.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-26219\" src=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image2-480x171.jpg\" alt=\"Family setup strategy and automation to overcome Revit limitations\" width=\"733\" height=\"261\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image2-480x171.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image2-768x274.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.modelical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image2.jpg 1068w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 733px) 100vw, 733px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Highly detailed shop drawings for construction<\/h3>\n<p>Once we had the Revit automations, we could shift our focus on highly detailed modelling at LOD 400.
