Infrastructure and Transportation
Count on a BIM partner in all phases of your project and ensure that digitalization shifts from cost to production.
Industry Challenge
Infrastructure construction projects represent challenges due to their technical complexity, long duration, and significant interaction with the environment. These developments involve the participation of numerous stakeholders and require considerable investments.
To have greater control over costs, timelines, and the range of technical aspects involved, many promoters and builders have adopted the BIM methodology. However, for contractors, implementing BIM in infrastructure projects still presents certain challenges:
During the planning and bidding phase, contractors need to:
- Clarify the promoters’ requirements.
- Specify control measures for compliance with requirements.
- Elaborate the BIM Execution Plan (BEP).
- Properly assess the resources needed to carry out the BEP.
- Avoid over or underestimating the economic value of the project.
- Achieve a precise cost estimation to gain a competitive advantage in the bidding process.
During the execution phase, contractors must:
- Meet client requirements.
- Ensure that BIM models are also useful for cost reduction and, if the contract terms allow it, production increase.
- Avoid the risk of duplicating costs if traditional methods coexist with the BIM methodology.
At Modelical, we collaborate as a BIM partner in all phases of the project. We help our clients apply the BIM strategy in their project so that this technological layer supports the definition of the solutions to be implemented. To achieve this, we combine our experience in infrastructure projects with our engineering and algorithm development capabilities.

Our approach
At Modelical, we have been collaborating since 2012 on infrastructure and linear works projects. Our portfolio includes projects such as roads, railways, wastewater treatment plants, airports, or ports, among others. For these projects, we create specific teams composed of civil engineers, architects, and developers. Our continuous involvement in infrastructure projects has allowed us to develop distinctive knowledge and skills in the following areas:
- Automation in linear projects to increase project efficiency.
- Introduction of road design calculations into BIM software, including clothoid equations, vertical alignments, and cross slope transitions.
- Interoperability between drafting software and BIM modelling software.
- Ability to communicate as civil engineers: clarifying BIM requirements with clients and subcontractors.
- Consistently estimating costs and necessary resources.
